5 Incentives you can use to motivate your toddler when potty training

We know potty training can be a struggle at times so we've collected five incentives/rewards you can use to motivate your toddler to make the transition from from diapers to regular underwear. Zig Ziglar has said, "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."

The same goes for your little Prince or Princess when learning how to properly use the porcelain throne. Here are five tricks you can use for your potty training program:

1. Custom potty

Give your energetic toddler the chance to decorate his/her own plastic potty. Feel to use colorful stickers to decorate and even write his/her own name on the potty seat so your child can receive a sense of ownership and responsibility.

2. Sticker chart

Print out a daily calendar for each month and hang it up either on the refrigerator or near the bathroom door. Every successful journey to the potty gives your child the opportunity to place a sticker on the chart. The stickers can be anything from their favorite superheroes to zoo animals.

3. Big kid undies

Let’s be honest. Your youngest child often wants to follow the lead of your oldest child. You can cater to that desire by have your child pick out boxers or briefs with his/her favorite colors and designs. You can either take your child to the nearest department store or browse online with your child to figure what big kid underwear he/she wants to wear everyday.

4. Reward bag

A relatively low-cost option, you can award your child with a paper bag of small candies and toys for every three or five successful trips to the potty. How often your make this reward available is completely your decision.

5. Crazy door hanger

Just like the door hangers at the hotel where you let room service know when you don’t want to be disturbed, have your child create his/her own door hanger. Like the personalized plastic potty idea, give your child the chance to decorate the door hanger and make it colorful.

Have you tried any of these tips before? What tips have you tried that are not on this list?
