5 ways to manage the stresses of potty training

You're the reason why your kid exists. You're also the reason why your kid has begun potty training thanks to your guidance and patience. What you may not know how control is the stress that comes with potty training your child. With you in mind, here are five ways to manage the stress of potty training:

1. Accidents happen: When making the transition from diapers to regular underwear, pee and poop may not always happen in the potty or toilet bowl. It's one thing you have to accept when potty training your child. Don't be surprised when it happens.

2. Recognize your triggers and limits: Pay attention to what makes you upset and what incidents set you off. It's also important to recognize when you are raising your voice and understand the power of body language. Knowing how to approach your child for correction of bad habits and poor potty practices will help your kid know that you're emotionally stable and care about his/her progress.

3. Know when your child is stressed: You're not the only one who is stressed during the potty training process. Your kid is stressed as well because it is a new approach to daily bodily functions. Spend some quality time with your potty training kiddo so your potty training kiddo understands you are there every step of the way. Any human being who feels alone when trying to make progress can quickly lose motivation.

4. Know how to unwind: How do you relieve stress or blow off steam? If you're at your wits end and lifting weights does the trick, go lift weights. Here are some other things you can do to unwind:

  • Enjoy a bubble bath
  • Eat some ice cream
  • Go for a run
  • Bake a dozen cookies
  • Swim 100 meters at the local pool
  • Listen to a comedic podcast for 20 minutes

The ability to unwind is a great way to maintain and improve your mental health. Always schedule time to relieve stress and stay positive.

5. Have fun: It's one thing to blow off steam and it's another thing to know how to have fun. Go do fun things from on regular basis for yourself. Like your potty training kid, you need incentives to help you stay the course and be patient with your potty training kid.
